At a recent community meeting in Kiwangala, Lwengo District, a powerful truth emerged:
Many Ugandans no longer trust the electoral process.
During the TOPOWA Forum Discussions, organised by Community Transformation Foundation Network – COTFONE, locals bravely opened up about why they feel voting has become meaningless:
-
Rigging and bribery have made elections feel like a game where the people’s voice no longer matters.
-
Fear of security brutality keeps many from even stepping near a polling station.
-
Leaders vanish after elections, breaking promises and abandoning the communities that believed in them.
-
No real change at the top — just a recycling of the same faces and the same problems.
These aren’t just complaints; they are cries for accountability, dignity, and real democracy
It’s time to amplify these voices!
Uganda’s future depends on listening — really listening — to the people at the grassroots.
When trust in elections crumbles, democracy weakens. But by shining a light on these truths, we can start pushing for real reforms, real accountability, and a system where every voice truly counts.
Change starts when we refuse to stay silent. TOPOWA!
